It’s Not About Me: It’s About a Great Awakening in America
My vision for seeing a Great Awakening in America is to mobilize our Southern Baptist leaders and churches to reach the world for Jesus Christ.
I want nothing in my life to stand in the way of seeing this done. Since 1995, the message of spiritual awakening has burned in my soul deeply.
It’s not about me
Over this past eighteen months, I have sensed deeply that God is raising up a desperation within the people of God again, to believe Him for the next great move of God in our nation. This vision is much bigger than me in every way and I want nothing to stand in the way of anyone hearing the call and joining in this moment.
It’s about a Great Awakening in America
As Christ-followers experience moments of spiritual revival and the church experiences seasons of God’s refreshing Spirit and power, I believe God may choose to extend His grace by raising up regions, sections, or even the entire nation, to experience a God-consciousness that moves us into a season of seeing millions in our own nation come to Christ. History demonstrates that movements like this in the past become global in their reach and effectiveness.
May we live to see the day when this occurs, so that we can be a part of seeing every person and people group in this world hearing that Jesus Christ is the only Way, the only Truth, the only Life, and there is no way to God the Father and Heaven itself, except through Him.

While I have clarified the importance of the first two, the call to Columbus, Ohio, on June 16-17, 2015 is critical to the other two. This is where our SBC family will come together this year to celebrate what God is doing in our 46,000 churches and through their Great Commission mission and ministries that we accomplish together through our cooperate efforts as Southern Baptists. Prayerfully, this gathering will be so powerful that each of us by the thousands will be launched from Columbus to see the world reached for Christ.

This Week at Cross Church | Exciting Thank You, New Series, and More
Each Thursday, I write this article specifically for our Cross Church Family, even though many others may read it. It is my joy to share these things with you today:
Exciting Thank You—Summer Program Giving Goal Reached!
On Memorial Day Sunday, we began a fifteen-week financial journey which concluded Labor Day Sunday. Our Summer Program of Giving budget goal was $4,950,000. This included not only our budget requirement for these fifteen weeks, but an additional $100,000 for camp scholarships.
I want to congratulate you, Cross Church Family, and thank all of you who were faithful in your summer giving. After this past Sunday, we have not only reached our Summer Program of Giving goal, but surpassed it. I am so overwhelmed to share with you that in these fifteen weeks, our Cross Church Family gave a total of $5,327,514 to our Ministry Budget, which exceeds our Summer Goal of $4,950,000 by $377,514. Wow! Praise the Lord! Thank you church family! Your giving has led to making a difference here, across America, and the world.
A New Series Begins Sunday: CHANGE
This coming Sunday, we will begin a new sermon series called CHANGE. This series will highlight biblical characters and experiences, lifting high the journey of how God changes us through various experiences of life. You will not want to miss it.
This series is relevant to both the unchurched and all Christ-followers, so please engage all people to join you. We will be speaking about:
- Change Through Calling
- Change Through Problems
- Change Through Understanding
- Change Through Prayer
- Change Through Failure
- Change Through Obedience
- Change Through Faith
Please join us Sunday as we begin this new series.
More: 3 Circles and How to Walk With God
Over the past two Sundays, we have taught you how to turn conversations about challenges and problems into conversations about Jesus Christ. We taught this through what we call 3 Circles. If you missed August 24, please watch our message from that day.
This past Sunday, I shared a message called, “How To Walk With God”, a very practical multi-passage message that may encourage you in your walk with Christ. I know many of you were away on this final holiday weekend of the summer, so please take the time to watch the message.
The more people we lead to Christ, the more we must disciple them in how to walk with the Lord. This is what I talked about this past Sunday.
